Fascia is a superficial connective tissue layer as well as a deep tissue layer.
This mystical, metaphysical ‘universe’ of connective tissue transmits messages through its fibers and wraps organs, blood vessels, nerves, cells, muscles and muscle fibres. It gives the body its form in a continuous web of threadlike energy which possesses ten times more sensory nerve receptors than the muscles in our body.
It’s a totally integrated system in which every cell in the body is embedded in its structure. Fascia plays a key role in the body’s strength, stability, flexibility and overall movement as well as:
● Major shock absorber
● Key in fighting infection
● Hormone secretion - it’s an endocrine organ
● Regulates metabolism and appetite
● Regulates inflammation and emergency responses throughout the body
The superficial fascia layer has within it all the resources it needs to not just store energy, but also to communicate with all the other organs of the body, including the Central Nervous System (CNS).
It is the fascial layer through which the practitioner works to reach the other structures of the body and is the ‘translator of touch’ to the deeper tissues; holding memories within its tissues and is even believed to hold consciousness.
The Infinite Intelligence at work through the gentle rolling moves of Bowen reminds the body of its blueprint state of homeostasis. It’s not surprising such a subtle approach is so powerful!
